Our outer world, the environment we live in reflects our inner world.

We have been exploring of late what it feels like to create space in our physical environment ie. our home and/or office and how this affects how we feel in our body.

If we come back to “everything is energy, therefore everything is because of energy”  (Serge Benhayon), then it is common sense that as we let go of physical possessions whether that be clothes, CD’s that we no longer listen to, books that just sit and gather dust, this physical discarding reflects a shift within ourselves and brings about a sense of lightness and ease in our body.

How we set things up in our home, the way we place things, the angle in which we sit a vase, or place a table is all having an affect on how we feel all of the time. As an example, if a chair is out of place even just slightly, we can feel the affect that this has on the entire room.

The more we connect with our body in stillness and live with harmony, the more we can feel the pull towards living in alignment with a natural order which exists within the universe.  When this order is respected and honoured there is a flow in life that can be felt.

When we honour and care for our bodies this naturally leads to a deeper honouring and caring for our living environment.

It works the other way as well, the more we take care of our environment, set it up in a way where there is a flow, the more this flow supports our own inner connection and sense of being nurtured – a cycle that feeds us back.

Take stock of what space you are living in in your day-to-day life. Does the space nourish you, support you to be you in your connection or is it time to let go of things that you no longer use and are just sitting around. Or perhaps try shifting or moving your furniture to another position or look at how you set up your desk… and don’t forget a good clean too!  Feel in your body each movement and each change and have fun with it. Does your body feel expansive with the change or does it contract? Let your body be your guide.

It doesn’t need to be daunting or a big job. Simply start with one draw or piece of furniture and let the flow come from there. Have fun opening up to the feeling of space in your life, and from there within your own body.

In our last blog Quality is everything we discussed the value and purpose of bringing a quality of connection into our everyday movements and how this supports us to a deeper level in holding and developing our relationship with ourselves. In this blog, we explore this a little more and share around how our quality of movement not only affects ourselves, but how it affects others – significantly so.

We are always in relationship. Every time we have an interaction with a person, whether that is meeting, emailing or passing someone on the street – we are in relationship.

Often we can think that how we are doesn’t affect anyone else but ourselves, but live in a house or work in an office with other people for a few days and notice what plays out and what you feel daily. As an example,  we all feel it if someone in the house or at work is angry, unwell or upset. Nothing needs to be said, it can be felt.

This shows that how we feel and how we are within ourselves is always affecting everyone, that we are all connected. Each of us make up a part of a grander whole, and upon this realisation comes a RESPONSIBILITY for the quality in which we choose to live our lives daily.

What we have been exploring of late is our body language in relationship with others and how our quality of connection with ourselves changes depending upon who we meet and the type of interactions that present.

As an example, we may be able to hold our quality of connection when we are alone and go about having a merry old time enjoying this connection, but what happens when someone else comes on the scene? Does our body stay open to being in relationship with that person or does it close down, contract, harden, maybe going into protection based on past incidences of feeling hurt/misunderstood by people or because we feel that the other person is not in a good mood.

True movement, that is naturally moving our body with a quality of connection, awareness and with free expression of who we are in full, requires an evenness and full honoring of ourselves in all our movements (i.e all aspects of our life) ALL of the time – whether we are on our own or with others.

With true movement, our body language, tone of voice, gaze and our every move are naturally saying “yes” to being open, transparent and “yes” to love, connection and equalness with everyone. True movement is inspiring and non imposing to others.

True movement is healing and offers others the powerful reflection of what it means to live in one’s fullness and the fact that this is accessible to everyone.

The more the quality of our movements reflects an ongoing openness, the more we begin to feel the joy that is there to be shared with others. It feels deeply healing for all.

This month, how about deepening your awareness of how your quality of movements is – not only with yourself but with others. How about starting to observe, clock and explore when you are able to simply be you, when you open up or when you close down and go into protection or hiding. Can you bring a level of consistency across the board in all of your movements, regardless of who you are with, meet and where you are?

When you are able to hold yourself in your quality, no matter what and no matter who, there is a real beauty and powerful reflection that is felt – by you and others – that comes from living the true you, ALL of the time.

Having just experienced this year’s Universal Medicine Health Retreat in Vietnam, one of the main points (amongst an absolute jammed pack 5 days of gems) that has really stood out for us is the importance of taking the quality of our being into movement – movement including all the various ways in which we express.

So what does this actually mean? Well, what we have been exploring and discovering over the past few years and which was strongly re-emphasized at this retreat is that movement is more than meets the eye. In fact, it includes that too (the movement of the eyelids) – everything from how we walk, to how we stand up and sit down, to the gesture of our hands, to the way we speak as well as the obvious very physical movements that make up our day.

Everything that we do is a movement. And if we pay attention to the HOW we move, we can start to sense if it is happening from a place of connection with ourselves and our body or not.

What we have found useful to develop our quality of being in all our movements (i.e in how we live) is to take some pause moments, perhaps by connecting and feeling our gentle breath or by being still and bringing attention to the body and connecting deeper to a feeling of stillness within. This stillness within is that part of us that is always there and remains untouched by the stresses and impositions of life.

We then offer ourselves the gift of our movements to initiate from this space, from this innate feeling and quality of stillness. At first the quality may be a little difficult to hold, but what we have found supportive is to keep bringing the focus back to the quality, make it a priority, make it your  “good medicine” to move from that inner connection.

Now why would we do this? Because it feels lovely and is purposeful to move in a way where we are connected with our essence.

Initiating our movements from a place of quality and presence builds a deeper and ongoing connection to our body and ourselves, and it steers us naturally to be more self-nurturing and self-honouring in all that we do.

Bringing quality to our everyday movements, to the way we live also deepens and expands the love in our body, a love that we then share with all of those we come into contact with.

And when we are with our body in what we do, those thoughts that sometimes drive us a little crazy – well they drop away because we are not giving them attention as we make how we move our focus, the priority in all that we do. A sure way to see a change in our thought patterns towards a more harmonious way of thinking – approaching the mind through the quality of the movements of our body, through the quality of the way we live.

Commonly today, the first thing that comes to mind when someone mentions yoga is the postures or exercises. However, yoga is more than this.

In essence, yoga is about how to be with our self in any given moment in a quality of energy that is true in connection.

Sometimes, it can be difficult to ‘be with ourself’. This may be because when we start to re-connect, we can experience an array of feelings that we may not want to feel –  such as anger, anxiousness, hardness, raciness or frustration.

So what do we do when we become aware of  these strong unwanted feelings in our bodies and it doesn’t feel pleasant?

What I have found is that if I allow myself to ‘just be’ with these feelings, they are then able to pass through my body. I feel the feeling for what it is, without going into the story behind the feeling. If I keep feeling it as a sensation and if I’m able to just stay with that sensation, it can change.

Sometimes I find that the feeling can be just too intense and I’m unable to stay with it for any period of time. My mind might be busy and the story behind the feeling is too much. I react, perhaps there is judgement or a want for things to be different. That is OK as well, as I know that feeling will revisit my awareness and perhaps next time I am more ready to connect and allow myself to simply just feel what is there to be felt.

However, if I am able to connect with the feeling, locate and feel it in a certain area of my body, stay with it, sometimes it shifts like magic.  I feel a shift in the energy and then sometimes, it disappears. The shift in my body leaves me feeling clear, light and sometimes joyful.

I have found the more I allow myself to feel what is going on in my body without reacting and as it shifts, I am then able to feel the loveliness of me.  As that which was covering up the loveliness of me shifts, I am left with feeling a deeper connection to me. This is yoga and healing.
